How we choose what to recommend

The same three-step process behind every guide on the site.

  1. Start from the space and the fuel

A balcony rules out wood fire. A small patio changes oven size. UK weather changes what a cover is worth. We settle the practical constraints before comparing anything.

  2. Research the shortlist

We compare manufacturer specifications, verified owner feedback and independent reviews, and we cite the sources we rely on - including the temperatures and preheat times makers claim versus what owners report.

  3. Check UK availability and live prices

Every recommendation links to a real UK listing, and prices shown on our guides are pulled live from the retailer rather than typed in and left to go stale.

Why Outdoor Kitchen HQ?

Most pizza oven reviews are written from a spec sheet. Ours are written from the patio.

Space-honest verdicts

Fuel-cost honesty

What gas, wood and pellets really cost per session - stated before you commit to a fuel.

Q01Gas or wood pizza oven?
Gas is consistent, fast to light and easier for weeknights; wood gives the ritual and a touch of flavour theatre but demands fire management and more cleanup. Most first-oven buyers are happier with gas (or a multi-fuel model) - our guides explain who genuinely benefits from wood.
Q02Can I use a pizza oven on a balcony?
Sometimes - it depends on fuel, clearances and your building's rules. Gas ovens with proper clearance are the realistic option; wood fire on a shared balcony is usually a non-starter. Our fuel & setup guides walk through the practicalities honestly.
Q03Do I really need an infrared thermometer?
If you care about consistent results, yes - stone temperature is the single biggest variable in home pizza, and guessing it wrong is why first pizzas burn underneath or come out pale. It's the cheapest upgrade with the biggest effect.
Q04Why does my pizza stick to the peel?
Almost always: too much water in the dough, too long sitting on the peel, or not enough semolina. It's technique, not gear - which is exactly why the site has a technique hub alongside the buying guides.
